The European Commission announced the launch of Urban Innovation Actions
The European Commission recently announced the launch of a new funding programme in support to urban policies: the Urban Innovation Actions. Based on the need to reinforce the urban dimension of the regional funds for the period 2014-2020, such new programme will address the need of innovative approaches raised by local authorities.
A total amount of €371 million will be made available for 7 years with the aim to identify and test new solutions and generate knowledge which can then be mainstreamed. Funding will support studies or pilot projects. Several calls will be published over the 2014-2020 period and their topics will be decided in consultation with Member States. The focus will be on urban challenges that will grow in importance in the coming years
This programme is open to any urban authority comprising at least 50 000 inhabitants, or any association or grouping of urban authorities with a combined population of at least 50 000 inhabitants. The financial support will be limited to €5 000 000 and the duration for each action to three years.
